Aleis 8030 / 9060 Livestock Scanning Configuration

This guide provides recommended settings for configuring the Aleis RFID Reader for livestock RFID scanning applications, including cattle races, sheep handling systems, handheld scanning, and integration with livestock scales.

 Configuration Details 

 1. Interface

Navigation

MENU → System Setup → Communications → Interface

Recommended Setting

Bluetooth

Purpose

Enables wireless communication between the reader and:

  • AgriNous
  • Mobile devices
  • Tablets
  • Bluetooth-enabled data collectors

2. Protocol

Navigation

MENU → System Setup → Communications → Protocol

Recommended Setting

Combined (Tiris/Aleis)

Purpose

Provides compatibility with a broad range of livestock RFID ear tags.


3. Serial Baud Rate

Navigation

MENU → System Setup → Communications → Serial Options → Serial Baud

Recommended Setting

9600

Purpose

Defines communication speed between the RFID reader and connected systems.


4. Bluetooth Configuration Mode

Navigation

MENU → System Setup → Communications → Serial Options → BT Config Mode

Recommended Setting

Off

Purpose

Disables Bluetooth configuration mode during normal operation.


5. Tag Format

Navigation

MENU → System Setup → Communications → Tag Format

Recommended Setting

ISO 27 Digit

Purpose

Defines the RFID tag number output format.


6. Scale Interface

Navigation

MENU → System Setup → Communications → Scale Interface

Recommended Setting

No Scales

Purpose

Disables livestock scale integration when scales are not connected.


7. Tag Filter

Navigation

MENU → System Setup → Communications → Tag Filter

Recommended Setting

Read Animals

Purpose

Restricts RFID scanning to livestock animal tags only.


 Best Practices Bluetooth Operation

  • Pair devices before entering livestock yards.
  • Maintain clear line-of-sight where possible.
  • Avoid interference from multiple Bluetooth devices.

 RFID Read Accuracy

  • Ensure animals move in single file.
  • Avoid operating multiple RFID readers close together.Keep metal objects away from antenna systems.

     

 Troubleshooting 

 Bluetooth Not Connecting

Possible Causes

  • Bluetooth not paired
  • BT Config Mode enabled
  • Incorrect serial settings

Recommended Actions

  • Re-pair the Bluetooth device
  • Verify BT Config Mode is Off
  • Confirm the baud rate is 9600

RFID Tags Not Reading

Possible Causes

  • Incorrect protocol setting
  • Wrong tag filter selected
  • Damaged RFID tags

Recommended Actions

  • Verify Protocol = Combined (Tiris/Aleis)
  • Verify Tag Filter = Read Animals
  • Test with known working tags
