Buyer Splits

Split a Buyer's invoice between multiple businesses.

Sometimes a buyer's purchases need to be billed to more than one business - for example, two businesses buying jointly, or a portion of the purchase belonging to a different entity. A Buyer Split lets you divide what's owed for a buyer's purchases across multiple businesses automatically, so invoicing goes out correctly without manual adjustment after the sale.

Before you start

  • Buyer Split must be enabled for your saleyard or deployment. If you don't see the option described below, contact our support team.
  • You need permission to create and edit buyer splits. If the Buyer Split button doesn't appear, check with your office admin.

Set a default split for a business

Use this when a business should always have their purchases split the same way, regardless of sale.

  1. Open the business's record and go to the Finance & Accounting tab.
  2. In the Buyer Splits section, select Add split.
  3. Choose a split type: Percentage or Head count.
  4. Add each business that should receive a share, and enter their amount — percentages must add up to 100%.
  5. Select Save.

Result: Every future sale lot where this business is the buyer will be split automatically according to this default, unless overridden for a specific Sale or Lot.

Override the split for a sale

  1. From the sale, open the Buyer Split option for the buyer you want to override.
  2. Choose a split type and enter the businesses and amounts as above.
  3. Select Save.

Result: This split applies to every sale lot the buyer purchases in this sale, replacing their default split for the duration of the sale.

Override the split for a single sale lot

  1. Open the sale lot and find the Buyer Splits section.

  2. Select Create Buyer Split (or Edit Buyer Split if one already exists for this lot).

  3. Choose a split type and enter the businesses and amounts.

Head count splits are only available here, at the sale lot level, since they rely on that lot's quantity. The amounts entered must add up to the lot's head count exactly.

  4. Select Save.

Result: This split applies to this sale lot only, overriding both the sale-level and default splits for the buyer.

Show split detail on the tax invoice

By default, an Invoice shows the split totals but not the head count/quantity behind each one.

  1. Go to Settings > Finance > Invoice.
  2. Turn on Show Buyer Split detail on Invoice.

Result: Tax Invoices for split lots now also show each lot's head count or quantity, not just the split amounts.

Troubleshooting

The split won't save because the amounts don't add up. Percentage splits must total exactly 100%, and head count splits must total exactly the sale lot's quantity — double-check your figures if you get a validation error.

A split isn't applying the way you expect. Remember the order of precedence: a split on the sale lot always overrides one on the sale, which always overrides the buyer's default. Check whether a more specific split already exists before assuming the default isn't working.

"Head count" isn't available as an option. Head count splits only apply to a single sale lot — if you're setting a split at the sale or business-default level, only percentage is available.
