NLIS Transfer Sheep and Goat Legislation
This is a both a summary and the legislation around requirements for Sheep and Goat EID Transfers in NLIS.
For older sheep and farmed goats they are covered by regulation 71D, this allows these animals to be identified with a Permanent Identification device (PID) - a visual NLIS device for the transition period and for mob based movements to continue to occur. However, if they are identified with an eID then 71D (4) means that they cease to be treated as an animal born before 1 Jan 2025 and all of the regulations relating to animals born after 1 Jan 2025 apply.
This means that in terms of sheep or farmed goats at a saleyard or notifying the NLIS database Regulations 71G and 71J-O must be adhered to – this includes replacing lost tags at saleyards, ensuring all sheep are identified, that the eID is scanned and the NLIS database notified of individual device number, the PIC of consignment, the buyer PIC and details from the NVD or movement document and the upload conducted within the required time frames. Also states who has legal obligations they must meet.
