Emails not Sending
Why Your Emails might not be sending
Open issue log:
2025-02-25 - We are currently experiencing some email deliverability to Microsoft email accounts (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com), either bouncing or receiving delayed/deferred emails. We are working with upstream providers to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.
AgriNous uses an upstream email provider to manage our email - MailGun - it’s a traditionally very finicky job running services that manage email deliverability, as you’re ultimately at the mercy of the other end actually accepting your email. Using MailGun allows us to focus on building software, rather than managing email servers.
With the amount of spam floating around, email providers (eg, Outlook, Gmail, etc) are understandably running constant checks on how valid an email is, or is not. They use a combination of
- technical checks (eg. was it sent from who it says it was sent from?)
- behavioural checks (eg. is this email sending lots of ad-related content?)
- reputation (eg. do other providers see this type of email as spam?)
AgriNous sends lots of emails - all of them transactional and warranted. These could be buyer or vendor reports, invoices, password resets, etc, etc.
We are *not* in the business of sending spam.
Consider any given sale may have dozens of buyers, dozens of vendors, where each of them will receive at least one communication, as per their customer records, along with additional emails to third-party buyers, agencies involved in the sale, and AgentNous customers running invoicing. It really adds.
Added to the fact that many of these messages are sent close together - sale finalisation - the behaviour can look very much like we are sending spam.
So, the fact is that based on some of the implied behaviour of our email transmissions, occasionally a provider will flag our emails as a bad actor.
Oftentimes, this is a temporary flag, and the email provider will suggest slowing down or trying again later. This is a very normal operation when sending email, and can result in a short delay in email arriving, but more often than not goes away quite quickly.
All of this is handled seamlessly with Mailgun.
Occasionally, the flag will be a little more aggressive and either continually send the “try again later” message or block us completely.
If this is the case, AgriNous and MailGun have automated alerts that bring this to our attention, and we work with the email hosts (Microsoft, Google, BigPond, etc) to resolve these issues.
Ultimately, AgriNous and MailGun put considerable effort into ensuring that emails arrive at their destination on time.
Email is an imperfect medium, and sometimes issues do occur, but we can assure you we are made aware of them and work to resolve them as quickly as possible.
What you could do as a Saleyard / Agency if this does occur:
- Contact Support and we can get the issue looked at straightaway.
- Encourage Buyers to get onto our Free Buyer Portal to access their reports in real time
- Keep an eye on the Inbox after confirmation to make sure all your emails are sent and are not bounced, or that issues are not occurring.
